John Leo Sweeney (Jack), of Casselberry, Florida, died February 7, 2006 of heart failure at the age of 80. A native Pittsburgher, Jack served in the Marine Corps during WWII and saw action in Okinawa and Saipan from March 1943 to March 1946. Upon discharge he worked at the Pittsburgh Athletic Association as a bellman until February 1951 at which time he was sworn in as a Pittsburgh Police Officer, where he received five commendations and served the city until his retirement in 1980 to Cocoa Beach, where he was a security officer for the first shuttle launch. He later worked for Holiday Inn and Comfort Inn before moving to Casselberry. It was at that time security called once again at the Hartford Building and later the Dupont Center, A.K.A. First Fl and Barrnett Bank before final retirement in 1998. He was preceded in death by his parents Ed and Helen Sweeney, brothers Edward and James and sister Jane Christian. He is survived by his wife Mary Jane Conley (Hillebrecht) three step-children Michael Hillebrecht, Patrick Hillebrecht, Mary Kaye Hillebrecht Ferrari and three grandchildren. A visitation will be held from 3-5PM on Friday, February 17, 2006 at Newcomer Family Funeral Home, East Orlando. A memorial Mass will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday, February 18, 2006 at Our Savior Catholic Church in Cocoa Beach.
