John N. Livera

April 29, 1945 — July 10, 2024

John “Johnny” N. Livera passed peacefully July 10, 2024, at the age of 79 at his home in Winter Park, FL. He was born in Newark, NJ April 29, 1945 to Domenico & Gracie Livera.

John married Carol Meyer July 24, 1965 and was blessed with four children. In 1972 they sold John’s Barbershop and moved from Bricktown, NJ to Winter Park, FL.

Johnny was a legendary hair stylist who made his customers look and feel great with a haircut and a hug. His salon, “Haircutters,” was a feel-good place in Maitland, FL for decades. Johnny always said, “The barber chair is my ministry.” In later years he opened a chain of salons called “Quick Cuts” as well as “Scupa’s Coffee & Ice Cream.” His commitment to being a small business owner and giving top-notch customer service inspired many in the family to follow his example. He said, “If your customers cry when you retire, you know you did it right.”

He loved family events, fishing, playing the game of bocce and tending to his garden. When Carol became a travel agent and realized the dream of opening her own agency “Friendly Travel,” John & Carol enjoyed many adventures and traveled the world.

John and Carol have been active members of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church. Special friends of Johnny have been his brothers in Christ for many years, including Ed Manson, Ed Soistmann, Al Boudreaux, Bob Hunting, Mike Schuermann and the Cursillistas. The Church community, Cursillio movement and serving God was an active part of his life.

John is survived by Carol, his loving wife of nearly 60 years, their four children Giovanni (Tracy), Michelle, Michael (Cathy Rodgers) and Bobby (Petra). John was blessed with four beautiful granddaughters Lillianna, Emma, Sophia and Julia. Johnny is also survived by his sisters Mary Loria and Phyllis Tolfa. Also his brother in-law Rick (wife Donna Meyer). John (“Uncle John”) was mentor to many, including Anthony Loria, Lauren Loria, Carley Loria, Dominick Loria, Mark, Jena, and Erena Loria, Gina, Chuck, Vinnie & Gianna Tolfa, Dominick Livera, Nina Livera, Ross Livera, Chris & Krystal Leach, Nick Mars, Sheehan, Xander & Avery Mars and Kim, Richard, Brooke and Caitlyn Geoghegan, Jennifer Nebel, Jessie Schabel, Allen, Diane & Danielle Moore. John treated everyone like family.

Johnny leaves behind a lasting legacy of love. He joins Domenico, Gracie, Rosario, Francis, Nina, Jim, Ed, Sparky, Winnie, Allen and Dickinson in Heaven. Amore Forever!
