John McCarthy – Big hearted family man, Chiropractor, Athlete

John McCarthy died on September 14, 2022, in Orlando, Florida after a courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife Terri McCarthy, son Jack, daughter Kelley, his daughter-in- law Kendall; his siblings Bernard McCarthy, James McCarthy, Marian McCosh, Kathleen McCarthy, Jean McCarthy-Sioss and Francis McCarthy and their extended families; his in-laws Maureen and Bill Kniffen and their family; his Aunts Rhea Foley and Regina Sheridan; many beloved cousins and nieces and nephews; and numerous friends that he considered family.

John was born in NYC on June 20, 1957, in New York City. He excelled at athletics and basketball in high school. He was passionate about personal and public health. Physical activity such as playing basketball, working out, hiking, running and riding his bike were a part of his daily routine. John was always up for an adventure or to explore new ideas or events, especially if it was outdoors. As a child, he spent many idyllic summers filled with fun and laughter, in Yulan NY with his extended family - - swimming, boating, hiking and playing games. John McCarthy attended All Hallows High School in Bronx, transferred to Gainesville High School in Florida, and graduated in 1975. He then attended the State University of New York in Binghamton, from which he graduated in 1983. John then went on to study at Palmer College of Chiropractic, earning his Doctor of Chiropractic degree in 1986.

After graduating, he moved to Orlando, Florida and worked as a Chiropractor. In 1989, he was fortunate to meet his wife Terri at Mulvaney's Irish Pub, after an Orlando Magic game. They were married on November 7, 1992. Their son Jack was born on February 15th, 1996, and their daughter Kelley on February 28, 2002. John was a talker and would talk to anyone, but he especially loved spending time with Terri and his children as well as his extended network of family and friends.

John , was committed to and enjoyed being a Chiropractor. He was extremely knowledgeable about his work and strove to provide the best care possible for his patients. He strictly adhered to the Chiropractor's Oath and continued to improve his knowledge and skills, all while dutifully preserving the confidences and dignity of his patients. John had some great big ideas that were designed not only to improve health care and reduce costs for patients, but also to create efficiencies for providers.

His compassion for others extended to his family, friends and community. John was always smiling and upbeat, quick to lend a helping hand, just listen, or share a good meal and a laugh. He had a big generous heart and he consistently expressed his love and appreciation for his family and his friends. John was loved and respected by all who knew him well and he will be missed.
