John David Ness

John David Ness, loving husband and father, passed away on August 1, 2020 at the age of 68. John was born in Orlando, FL on September 24, 1951. After a 4-year stint in Australia as a teenager, he returned to Florida, graduating from Edgewater High School in 1970. He attended Bob Jones University in South Carolina for undergrad and grad school, receiving a masters in Church Administration. While working in Gastonia, NC, John met his future wife Martha, and they bonded over their mutual love for God and desire to serve Him. In the early years of their marriage, they celebrated the arrival of their son Alan and spent a few years in Maryland close to Martha's family. When John and his family returned to Orlando, he served in a variety of roles in his church and started his own company, A-Plus Floor Care, Inc.

John was instrumental in leading his family to the Lord and has been a continuing example of a good, caring Christian. Some of his favorite memories included his time as a Neighborhood Bible Time evangelist and the missions trips he took with his church. He was known for his love of music and exceptional guitar skills, which brightened family sing-alongs and church gatherings. John was infamous among his family and extended family for always having a camcorder in hand, and with it, he cataloged many precious memories, awkward moments, and now-treasured glimpses of shared laughter and life. He loved exploring and camping in the great outdoors. His passion for history and long drives led him to explore both famous and obscure historical sites all over the U.S., and he enjoyed sharing his knowledge and adventures with others. His parent's cabin in Spring Lake was a favorite family destination, providing swimming, hiking, and restful time with loved ones. John had well-honed tennis and ping pong skills and was happy to take on anyone who would join him in a round of either.

John is preceded in death by his father Phil Ness, his mother Joyce Ness, and his brother James Ness. He is survived by his wife Martha Ness, and his son Alan Ness, his sisters Nancy Jackson (Don), Susan Larson (Larry), 17 nieces and nephews, and 10 great-nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM on Thursday at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3806 Howell Branch Rd, Winter Park, FL 32792, with a graveside service immediately following in Palm Cemetery, 1005 N New York Ave, Winter Park, FL 32789.

Due to COVID-19, we respectfully request that everyone present wear a mask and observe distancing protocols. Current county guidelines limit gatherings to 50 or less, so the family welcomes friends and loved ones to attend either the funeral service or the graveside ceremony.

In lieu of flowers, donations in honor of John can be made to Fellowship Baptist Church (103 Holden Ave., Edgewood, FL 32839).
