JOHN PAUL WIMBROW, SR.

Memorial services will be held at a later date at the Greenbackville Union United Methodist Church by the Rev. David R.Chew for John Paul "Jack" Wimbrow, Sr., 87, of Orlando, Florida, April 26, 2010, who passed away suddenly.

His business career included many tomato canneries; ¼ owner of Pittsville Canning Company, President & CEO (founder) of Snow Hill Canning Company, and President and Treasurer of Green Back Canning Company. Jack also belonged to several business organizations such as The Delmarva Tri-State Packers Association, which included equipment updates; and The National Canners Association, which included annual Canners Conventions.

Born in Pittsville, Maryland, July 7, 1922, he was the third of four children and the only son of the late Paul Godfrey Wimbrow and Elizabeth Casey Dennis Wimbrow. He is survived by two sisters, Martha Elizabeth "Betty" Wimbrow Shockley, and Mary Alice Wimbrow Puls. Jack was preceded in death by an older sister, Jean Marie Wimbrow Lewis Scarborough.

He served with the Marine Corps, First Marine Division, 5th Amphibious, 81st Infantry Division, 7th Anti-aircraft defense, AA Battalion, H & S Battery during World War II in the Pacific Theatre at Guadalcanal, Peleliu, Samoa, and Ellice Island. Achieving the rank of Corporal he was awarded a Navy Presidential Unit Citation Award with 2 stars. He also earned the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, a World War II Victory Medal, a Philippine Victory ribbon, and a Combat Action ribbon.

During his years living in Snow Hill, Maryland, he was a member of the Disciples Of Christ, Christian Church, Snow Hill from 1948 to 1956; and the Whatcoat Methodist Church, Snow Hill from 1956 to 1969. Moving to Winter Haven, Florida in 1970, he was immediately baptized into the First Baptist Church, Winter Haven, 1970 to 1973. This church grew, divided, and included the Calvary Baptist Church, Winter Haven, Florida, 1973-present.

After graduating Snow Hill High School in 1940, he attended Peddie (Preparatory School) Heightstown, New Jersey, until the war broke out. He immediately joined the war effort as a Telephone Man, 641, an electrical wireman connecting cable wires.

His wife of 61 years, Mary Estine Bounds Wimbrow, passed away January 10, 2010 of ovarian cancer.

Surviving are their three children, James Richard Wimbrow of Winter Haven, Fl.; Lois Ann Wimbrow Rogers (Richard W. Rogers) of Haliewa, Hi; and John Paul Wimbrow, Jr. (Teresa M. Wimbrow ) of Greenbackville, Va., and grand-children, Wendy Erin Wimbrow Laforest (John Michael Laforest), Knoxville, Tn; Angela Dawn Mears Wimbrow Lambe (David R. "Scott" Lambe, II), Newberry, Fl; Jamie Elizabeth Wimbrow; Kassie Shine Rogers, Kamuela, Hi; Nessa Pelelehuia Rogers Richardson Nowakowski (Casimer "Caz"); Ned Wesley Pueokalewa Rogers and Sarah Rose Rogers Lyons (Henrick Wiinstedt Lyons), Makawao, Hi; and five great-grandchildren, Bailey Brooke Richardson; William John "Will" LaForest; Nathan Laforest; David Angelis Lambe & Cordelia Elizabeth Lambe.
