John Paul Tanner

September 22, 1927 — July 15, 2019

John Paul Tanner joined his Heavenly Father on July 15, 2019. He passed peacefully in his home, surrounded by family, in Orlando, Florida.

Born on September 22, 1927 in Cleveland, OH, John served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was stationed aboard the USS Bremerton and later authored numerous articles about his time of service.

John earned degrees in both Industrial Engineering and Economics from the University of Miami, as well as an MBA in Engineering Management from Rollins College. John was a licensed professional engineer with over 30 years of work in the fields of high technology manufacturing and production. He is the author of Manufacturing Engineering with versions published in 1985 and 1991. His career in industrial engineering and management included work with Eastern Airlines, Lockheed Martin and McDonnell Douglas. John also founded and ran an industrial consulting firm and was a professor of Engineering at UCF and Valencia Community College.

John was married for 70 years to his beloved wife, Mary, and he is survived by her and their 11 children, 23 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. John's Catholic faith was a central tenent of his life and he made many sacrifices so that all of their children were able to attend parochial schools. John was known for his witty humor and passion for University of Miami football.

The Requiem Mass will take place at Good Shepherd Catholic Church on Saturday, August 3rd at 11:00 a.m. and will be followed by the burial at Chapel Hill Cemetery.
