In loving memory of:
Joseph A. Sepulveda Jr.
1959-2022
Joey left us too soon on December 18th, 2022 at 63 years of age. Born on July 23rd in Camp Lejeune, NC. He was a loving husband to "Pupi" for 41 great years. He is survived by his wife ("Pupi"), kids (BJ & Lauren and Heather & Frankie), mom (Lucy), grandchildren (Jadiel, Natalie, "Brooklyn" and "Knuckles"), sister and brother in law (Diane and Tico), nephews (Andrew, Jonathan, Christopher, and Tony), siblings in law ("Tata", "Pola", "Ita", and "Pelón"), aunt and uncles (Gina, Joe and Frankie), a very large extended family, many friends and colleagues. Preceded in death by his father, Joseph A. Sepulveda Sr.
Joey spent his childhood and teenage years in NYC and later moved to Puerto Rico to attend the InterAmerican University. Shortly after moving, he showed up to Pupi's home to meet her after only seeing a picture of her. They spent the beginning of their relationship using Miriam, Joey's cousin, as translator since Pupi didn't speak English and Joey didn't speak Spanish. They went on to marry in 1981 and have 2 children.
MSG Sepulveda, named "Maicon" by his peers in the Artillery, had a long and fulfilling military career, serving in the Marine Corp, Army NG and Army NG of Puerto Rico for a total of 27 years and 7 months of service. As stated by his former Battery and Battalion Commander, COL (RET) Humberto Buitrago, he was an excellent soldier, and a tremendous Non-Commissioned Officer; very sharp posture and attitude which led him to climb to positions of responsibilities which only the best can perform.
For over 20 years, Joey worked in the floral industry eventually running the family business, Mercado de las Flores.
A natural chef and baker, Joey loved to cook and bake for EVERYONE. Be it hosting a bbq, roasting an entire pig, baking cakes and cheesecakes, or hosting pizza parties, he got so much joy from feeding his loved ones. However, he never cleaned up after himself so Pupi was always on dishwashing duty.
He loved his toys: motorcycles, boats, cars, guns, legos, etc. Once he set his mind on wanting something, he had to have it. If you asked him what he wanted as a gift, his answer was always the same: TOYS! He enjoyed going to the gun range with his kids and nephews, keeping his nephews in line and spending time with his family.
Most of all Joey was a family man. He was at his happiest when he was with all his kids, grandkids and nieces & nephews. He was incredibly proud of his kids and the lives they built for themselves. In recent years, he spent a lot of time with his grandkids eating ice cream, swimming in the pool and sharing French fries. Joey was a mentor and friend to his older nephews, spending many nights out with them that ended in someone having to get them out of trouble.
Joey and his sister were "Irish Twins" only 50 weeks apart. Joey always insisted that he was the younger one and they would bicker back and forth.
Although short, his life was full of love, laughter and joy. He touched the lives of many and was loved by many more. May he rest in paradise.
