Joyce M. (Ansted) Farris, 87, went to be eternally with the Lord on December 10, 2021. She died of heart failure and was with family in the comfort of her home.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Robert C. Farris; her son, Randy L. Farris; her parents, Walter E. and Ineth J. (Ricket) Ansted; her siblings, Albert Paul Sakel, Harriet Trumbull, Ann Mauer and Walter Jackson Ansted.
She is survived by her daughter, Karen S. (Farris) Wittman; grandson, Ryan J. Wittman; granddaughter, Kristina J. Wittman; granddaughters, Amara J. and Delilah M. Wittman; grandson, Jadon M. Concha-Wittman; two sisters, Sandy Clevenger and Carol Smith; and her dog, Cocoa. Joyce (21) and Robert (23) were married on February 11, 1956 at the Church of God in Hagerstown, Maryland. They were married 64 years. They lived most of their marriage in Fort Wayne, Indiana. They moved to Florida in 1987 to be with their children and grandchild.
Joyce graduated from Burnham High School, Sylvania, OH, in May 1953. Throughout her working career she had jobs in a photography studio (PA); daycare at Lake Avenue Church of the Nazarene (IN); nursing home (Deltona, FL) and retired from her last job working with foster children at Great Oaks Village (Orlando, FL).
Joyce has been a member of Lake Avenue Church of the Nazarene, (Ft. Wayne, IN); First Church of the Nazarene (Orlando); Deltona Church of the Nazarene (Deltona); and United Church of the Nazarene (Orlando). She has always served in various roles in church as Sunday School Teacher, Puppet Ministry, Caravan Teacher and Director, Prayer Team, Missions (reading books) and Outreach Straight Street Ministies. We mostly remember her as passing out her pocket crosses and prayer boxes. She was always telling her grandchildren to fill their Alabaster boxes. It was important for her family to be in church.
Joyce loved to do crafts, work puzzles and bowl. She made plastic canvas pocket crosses to hand out and in her last stay in the hospital she gave her remaining crosses to the hospital employees. She made a racetrack, cabin set and doll furniture set for her grandchildren. Her last project, that took months to do and finished before going into the hospital, was Halloween boxes filled with candy and personal items for Palm Garden Rehabilitation Center. She loved to spend her time making things for others.
What are some memories about Joyce that make us smile when we think of her?
• a giver of her time, money and self to others and the church.
• faithful in her daily devotions, prayer, attending and serving in her church, and giving monetarily to organizations
such as Salvation Army, CRU, CBN, and Christian Jews.
• she was courageous in being a two-time breast cancer survivor.
• taught her children/grandchildren how to sew and cook.
• loved hugs from her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her friend, Laureen Munfus, always had a hug for her
on Sundays.
• loved to shop from Publishers Clearing House…but never did win that sweepstakes!
• lived a simple life, and never placed value on things.
• Collected pop can tabs for cancer and box top labels for the Indian Reservation.
• loved hot dogs, bologna and stuffed green peppers.
• If she saw the grandkids without shoes or socks, she'd always say "shouldn't they have something on their feet or
socks on to keep their feet warm"?
• collected spoons from different vacation spots.
• liked to watch the tv shows Walker Texas Ranger and In the Heat of the Night.
• Her favorite color was red and flower roses.
• Loved chocolate, Debbie cakes and snowballs.
It is a comfort to know that Joyce is in Heaven with God, her family and friends and we will meet her there again someday.
Joyce's life will be celebrated on Sunday, January 9, 2022 at 12:30 p.m. at United Church of the Nazarene, 1320 S. Chickasaw Trail, Orlando, FL, 32825. You can view the service at UCNorlando/facebook.com. A reception will follow. She will be laid to rest at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery in Mims, FL with her husband and son.
