Joyce Hilda Keller was born in Port of Spain, Trinidad on February 27, 1934. Born into a large family of 4 sisters and 1 brother, Joyce grew up in Morvant, a town in Trinidad, and attended primary school at St. Dominic's RC School. A bright and promising student, Joyce was a shy girl with an inherent sense of leadership and steadfastness. She later graduated from Modern Secondary School in 1952. After graduation, she began working as a typesetter in Port of Spain, and was shortly promoted to a proofreader position where she thrived. An avid traveler, Joyce visited many different countries during her lifetime, among her favorites being a dream trip to the Vatican in Rome.
It was while working in Trinidad that Joyce met and fell in love with Elias Francis. Their love story would span the next 56 years. They were married in 1959. Joyce and Elias welcomed their son Wayne shortly before the couple moved to the United States where Joyce continued her passion for words as a lithographer. She was also a Pharmacy Assistant and briefly worked for Disney resorts before her retirement in October 1997.
On December 15, 2015 Joyce H. Francis passed away at the age of 81, joining her late husband Elias. She is survived by her sisters Sybil, Phyllis, and Janet, her son Wayne (Eunice), grandchildren Simonne, Jenelle, and Aaron, and many nieces and nephews.
