After a valiant struggle with incurable breast cancer, as well as Parkinson's Disease, Joyce Ann Scranton Drazen, 74, passed away on November 29, 2017, in Altamonte Springs, FL.Born in Gary, IN on June 14, 1943, she was raised in Olney, IL, then Eustis, FL by her parents M. Jean and Cecil Scranton.
While in high school, Joyce was extremely active in many school activities, including band, school counsel, swimming, and cheerleading. In 1959, she was crowned Queen of Eustis Assembly of Rainbow Girls. Upon graduating from Eustis High School in 1961, Joyce attended and graduated from a medical technical college in Miami, Florida, where she met and married her husband, Bruce A. Drazen in 1963.
A member of the University of Central Florida's first four-year graduating class, Joyce graduated in 1972 with a bachelor's degree in Biology Education. After teaching for six (6) years at Stonewall Jackson Junior High School in Orlando, Florida, and then serving with the Orange County Sheriff's Office, she retired in 1997. During her tenure at the Sheriff's Office, she worked in various capacities as a victim advocate, public information officer for then Sheriff Lawson Lamar, and deputy sheriff. While working as a deputy sheriff, Joyce worked in Sector 1 uniform patrol division and then completed her career as a detective. During her sworn service, Joyce was a recipient of numerous awards and letters of recognition.
Joyce was greatly loved by many. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Bruce Drazen; and their children: Stephanie Aubrey (Peter) of Fayetteville, NC; Dave Drazen of Lake Mary, FL; Jennifer Williams (Adam) of Miramar, FL; as well as grand/great grandchildren: Justine Aubrey (Daniel Bateson) of Fayetteville, NC and their children Avery, Eisley, Eloise, Emme; Nicholas Aubrey (Jessica) of Clarksville, TN and their son, John; Victoria Aubrey Morton (Austin) of Dahlonega, GA and their children Lucy, and Barrett; McKena Aubrey Paul (Drake) of Clarksville, TN; Alexis Williams of Miramar, FL. Joyce is also survived by her brother, Larry Scranton (Marilou) of Deltona, FL.
A memorial service celebrating Joyce's life will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2017, at 2:00 pm at the Sanlando United Methodist Church, 1890 West State Road 434, Longwood, FL 32750. A committal service will follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery, 3329 E. Semoran Blvd, Apopka, FL 32703. There will be a reception at the family home located at 3316 Regal Crest Drive, Longwood, FL 32779.
