Juan A. Acevedo, 69 years old, hometown of Oviedo, FL has passed away on Sunday Nov. 10, 2024, surrounded by his loving daughter and sons by his side until his finale days. Also known as Big John, Papo, Dad, Grandpa and Papa, he was born to Elisin Mercado and Gilberto Ross on Jan. 8, 1955 in Frederiksted, St. Croix, Virgin Islands.
Dad was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints for many years where his love for our Heavenly Father grew even more. A man of many traits ready to teach to those who were ready to learn, he enjoyed meeting new people and having conversations about anything and everything with everyone. Dad was a loving and caring person, wanting to help as much as he could in his own ways. He touched so many hearts as he crossed everyone’s paths in life. He was funny in his own ways, loved to laugh, and renaissance on all the great memories we shared together.
He loved hard! He loved each and everyone one of us so very much. That was one thing he was afraid of - leaving us behind. He loved all 3 of his children. He enjoyed his last trip here to Orlando back in July with his oldest son, John. Dad told me spending time with my brother John, was different this time in a good way. And he really enjoyed it. He took care of him without my dad asking for help and he had a different connection this time and Dad acknowledged that. He said it was nice to feel that love from John.
He always said his son Peter was strong, and special sent to us from up above. He always asked and wanted to make sure that Peter was always ok. He knew he will be and will continue to protect and watch over us. And if you haven’t noticed already, Peter is the spitting image of Dad. Everything he does reminds us all of our father. My brother John said Dad might have left us, but he left us Peter.
He loved David, his Son-In-Law. He knew from day one, when this time came, he didn’t have to worry about his girls. Dad always felt safe with Dave and knew that he would make sure things were taken care of till the very end. David was Dad's best student when it came to learning how to fix things around the house.
He loved all four of his grandchildren, Malick, Sean, Jalisa and Zendaya. He loved catching up with his Grandsons and their plans on life. He offered as much advice as he could to them, and was so proud of their accomplishments already, and their future plans they had. He loved having his long phone conversations with his granddaughter, Jalisa. Not 20 -30 minutes, I’m talking about 2-3 hr long conversations where she had to prep herself and clear out her schedule just to talk with grandpa because we all know Dad was always a talker.
He loved and enjoyed watching videos of Zendaya playing the piano. He saw the progress she was making and how she improved in her posture. He always made it very clear, to never give up in playing the piano and to always be strong, and know he will be listening from up above. He said Zendaya always reminded him of his memories he had of his daughter when I was little.
He was so excited to have two great-Granddaughters, Alejandra and Little Valerie.
If you know my dad, he had a thing for rubbing our arm. It is a memory he always had with his grandmother and he continued to do all his life. He shared a special love for Mom since they were teenagers. He would always asked about her well being and made sure we would always call to check up on her. He loved his Mother and missed her very much. He also enjoyed his phone calls he had with her and his sister, Linda Alicia, in Juana Diaz, PR.
He loved his siblings (The Ross Family) from his dad’s side in Fajardo, PR. He loved all his family, his friends he’s made through out the years and extended friends he’s made at St. Joseph Towers at Lauderdale Lakes.
Dad will be missed by so many of us, near and far. But we know where he’s at. It brings us peace that he isn’t suffering anymore here on earth. And when the time comes for us all, he will be there waiting with open arms.We love you Dad / Grandpa.Forever and Always, Your little girl and Sons. The Acevedo Family. Xo
