Juan Antonio Gomez

March 7, 1962 — April 9, 2025

Sanford

With deep sorrow and eternal love, we announce the passing of Juan Gomez—a devoted husband, proud U.S. Army veteran, loving father and grandfather, faithful Catholic, lifelong Philadelphia Eagles fan, amazing friend, and loyal battle buddy. He passed away peacefully on April 9th, 2025, at the age of 63, surrounded by the family he so fiercely loved.

Juan was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico, and raised in Bo La Cuarta. A place that gave him his foundation in family, community, and strength. Those early years shaped the man he would become—one defined by loyalty, heart, and quiet resilience. Those who knew him knew that you could ask him for anything. He may have an attitude, but he always came through. He was a funny, grumpy man who frequently used his father's phrases, like “Mi cago en diez.”

A man of strong Catholic faith, Juan’s belief in God guided him through life’s greatest joys and its deepest heartbreaks. He served his country with honor and pride in the United States Army for over 30 years, beginning his career in the Air Defense Artillery and later serving in Transportation (88M). He completed two tours in Iraq and retired in 2011 following the heartbreaking loss of his son, Juan Jr.

Throughout his military career, Juan was more than a soldier—he was a trusted friend and a battle buddy you could always count on. His fellow service members knew him as someone who led with quiet strength, looked out for others, and stood tall in the face of adversity. His loyalty, his humor, and his steady presence left a lasting mark on everyone who served beside him.

As a father to Juan Jr., Javier, Odalis, and Ashley, Juan was steady, dependable, and full of wisdom. He taught by example—how to work hard, love harder, live with faith, and always stand by your people, no matter the odds. And most importantly, how to be a loyal Eagles fan.

As a grandfather, he was the heart of the family. His presence was a blessing and a comfort. His eyes lit up at the sound of little footsteps, and his greatest joy came from watching his family laugh, grow, and thrive.

And on Sundays? You always knew where to find him—decked out in green, passionately cheering for his beloved Philadelphia Eagles. Whether celebrating a win or riding out a loss, his loyalty never wavered. He bled green, and he made sure everyone around him knew it. Just like with everything else in his life, his passion for the game was fierce, joyful, and full of heart. He also enjoyed baseball (#21) and the Sixers.

Juan is survived by his loving wife, Eusebia Gomez who stayed strong by his side to the very end; his children, Juan A. Gomez Jr. (in spirit), Javier C. Gomez, Odalis I. Pedata, and Ashley M. Gonzalez; and his grandchildren, Yarel A. Gomez, Jacob X. Gomez, Juliette S. Gomez, Jasmine N. Gomez, Juan A. Gomez, Adelina N. Gonzalez, and Sylas A. Pedata. He is also remembered with love by his brothers and sisters Jorge, Yamin, Sally, and Francisco, a wide circle of extended family, lifelong friends, and brothers-in-arms who will miss him deeply. He is preceded in death by his father, Felix Gomez; his mother, Francisca Gomez; and his beloved son, Juan A. Gomez Jr.

A man of service, faith, loyalty, humor and love—Juan Gomez lived with purpose and left behind a legacy that will never be forgotten. His family takes comfort knowing he is now resting in the arms of the Lord, reunited with those he held dear.

He was our hero, our rock, our battle buddy, and our biggest fan. And now, we carry his spirit with us—forever cheering, forever loving, and forever bleeding green.

“Fly, Eagles, Fly.”
