Juan Rafael Pastrana, 64, of Melbourne, FL, passed away unexpectedly on January 22, 2023 surrounded by family.
Juan was born on July 15, 1958 to Jorge L. Pastrana and Felicita Álvarez in Bronx, NY. He attended kindergarten and first grade at PS 20. In 1964 his family moved to Bo. Barrazas, Carolina, Puerto Rico where he grew up in the mountains of his grandfather's land. He attended Mr Suarez Elementary School Barrazas Carolina, Salvador Brau Middle School Cacao Carolina, and Julio Vizcarrondo Coronado High School Carolina where he graduated with high honors. After, he went on to study at Universidad de Puerto Rico, Recinto de Mayaguez where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
After graduating he was recruited by the Federal Government and relocated to New Jersey to start his engineering career as an army civilian employee with his then wife Frances. They went on to have two children Bryan and Amanda.
In 2019, Juan retired after 37 years with the Department of Defense last serving as project officer at the Program Executive Office Command, Control and Communications- Tactical, Project Manager Mission Command.
Juan was a loving son, father, brother, uncle, and in recent years grandfather. He was a fun loving man who enjoyed gatherings with his family and friends. After retirement he enjoyed fitness, cycling, and most of all salsa dancing. You would often find him with a drink in one had and a cigar in the other.
Juan was predeceased by his paternal grandparents Juan Pastrana and Daniela Ramírez, maternal grandparents Felix Álvarez and Laura Chevere, parents Jorge L. Pastrana and Felicita Álvarez. He is survived by his brother Jorge L. Pastrana and his wife Aida V. Pastrana, niece Joaidy Pastrana, niece Meralys Pastrana Stephens, her husband Jeremy Stephens, their children Alexander and Victoria, and his nephew Jorge A. Pastrana, his wife Camila Pastrana, and their children Benjamin and Emma, son Bryan J. Pastrana and wife Faina Pastrana, daughter Amanda C. Kenny, her husband Sean Kenny, granddaughter Scarlett F. Kenny and grandson Levi S. Kenny.
Services will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home, 895 South Goldenrod Rd, Orlando, FL. 32822 on Thursday January 26, 2023 3:00-6:00pm.
