Judith "Judy" Nielsen, born February 21, 1942, in Manhattan, New York, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2025, in Winter Park, Florida. She was 82 years old.
In June of 1970, Judy married the love of her life, Joseph Nielsen. Together, they built a beautiful life and raised five children: Frank Nielsen (Amy), Maryanne Salmon (Tim), Donna Geron (Lee), Lisa Bungay, and John Nielsen. Judy was a proud grandmother to Desiree DeSerio, John Bungay Jr., Steven Bungay, Heath Nielsen, Kaitlyn Salmon, Morwenna Nielsen, and Robyn Nielsen. She also cherished her role as a great-grandmother to Addison DeSerio and Makenna Bungay.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Esther Downing; her sister, Patricia Downing; her son-in-law, John Bungay; and her daughter-in-law, Kathy Nielsen.
Judy worked for Chase Manhattan Bank for over 25 years, where she was known for her dedication and professionalism. A proud member of the New York City Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution for more than 50 years, she had a passion for genealogy and spent countless hours researching and documenting her family’s ancestry.
After living in Staten Island, New York, for many years, Judy and Joseph relocated to Florida in 2011 to enjoy their retirement. She loved animals—especially her beloved cat Ty—and found joy in simple pleasures such as sitting in the sun on her back patio, solving puzzle books, and watching Wheel of Fortune. Judy also enjoyed traveling both domestically and internationally with her husband.
Judy’s warmth and love will be deeply missed by all who knew her. May her memory bring comfort to those she leaves behind.
