My mother had several names during her lifetime. She was "Katherine" at birth and in childhood. Family and friends called her "Kay". Suzanne, Nancy, John and I knew her as " Mom". Later when the grandchildren and great grandchildren came along, she was called " Gummie". There are many grandmothers in the world but we were lucky to have the one and only "Gummie".
My mother lived a long and happy life. She said to us on her 92nd birthday, "How did I get this old?" I told her because she was blessed. Actually I think it's the other way around-- we were all blessed to have her in our lives.
I am so thankful for my Mom teaching me how to be a good mother and grandmother. She taught me to have patience, kindness and the love of family. My Mom introduced me to the love of all types of music. We loved to listen to Big Band, jazz, musicals, classical and even some rock and roll . Her favorite singer of all time was Frank Sinatra and later Michael Buble. She loved to dance especially at weddings! Mom also taught me to love and care for animals of all kinds especially dogs. She loved to watch the birds out her condo window and later on our our lanai.
So Mom, I thank you for letting me be your daughter. Whenever I have a glass of Pinot Grigio wine (otherwise known to family members as "Topo Gigio") , I will toast to you! I won't let it "breathe" either….fill it to the top! I love you and miss you. Till we meet again, Mom. Love always, Peggy
