Katie Mae Blair Sims was the third child born to Willie Mae Bracey-Blair and J.C. Blair on September 19, 1949, in Otter Creek, Florida. In her latter teenage years, she was raised by her grandmother Maybell Brown, aka, Dear mother. They all preceded her in death.
Katie attended public school in the state of Florida and she also furthered her college education in Daytona Beach, Florida. She was employed by AT&T and various other telecommunications companies for many years. In 1979, Katie married Sidney Sims and to this union was born their only daughter, Kaisha S'ne Sims. Katie accepted the Lord as her Savior at a young age and attended worship services at Mission Road COGIC under the leadership of Elder Larry Perkins where she was baptized in 1993. She later joined Word of Faith Ministries under the leadership of Pastor Harlan Walker.
Katie loved the Lord. She would speak often of how good God is. Katie loved soul food, especially oxtails!!! She also loved gospel, R&B, jazz and inspirational music. She had a sense of humor and loved to laugh, joke and spend quality time with Kai and her only grandson, Kaidon. She also enjoyed playing mobile games and watching Christmas movies. She especially valued her independence. Even though Katie was faced with health challenges later on, she always enjoyed communicating over the miles with her family including her sister, Edna, her brother-in-law, Joe (whom she cherished), her brother, John and sister-in-law, Rhonda as well as receiving visits from her loving & attentive cousin, Sandra.
On April 3, 2024, Katie answered the call of the Lord to come home. She leaves to cherish in her loving memory her dedicated daughter, Kai Sims, one grandson Kaidon, one sister, Edna Avery and brother-in-law, Joe Avery of Oroville, CA, one brother, John C. Blair, Jr and sister-in-law, Rhonda Blair of Detroit, Michigan, a loving cousin, Sandra Law of St. Petersburg, Florida, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
