Kay Marilyn Halley

Kay Marilyn Halley, of Altamonte Springs, FL, passed away peacefully in her home, at the age of 80, on Friday, May 5, 2017. Kay was born on September 4, 1936 in Deerfield Michigan. She is preceded in death by her parents Worthy and Edith Schwalm, Brothers Gary and Dick Schwalm, and beloved husband William J. "Bill" Halley Jr. Kay is survived by brothers Daryl and Pete Schwalm, sister Barbara Goreb, son William "Billy" Halley III, son Shawn and wife Christie Halley, and grandchildren Austin Worthy, Camryn Marie , and Katelyn Diana Halley. She also has many nieces and nephews, and lots of friends.
Kay grew up in the small town of Deerfield Michigan. In 1954 she graduated from Deerfield High School. After graduation she went to New York City, to attend Finishing School for Eastern Airlines. She then went on to be a stewardess. In 1964, while stationed in Miami, she met the love of her life, Bill, and in that same year they travelled to Greenville, North Carolina, where they became husband and wife.
After their marriage they bought a house on Lake Minnehaha, in Maitland and less than a year later, they had her first son, Billy. Two short years later their second son, Shawn, was born.
Kay was a very active person in the Maitland Community. As a member of the Jaycees, she served on the Maitland Chamber of Commerce. She was also highly involved with the Maitland Civic Center and starting the clinic at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, as well as involvement with the Maitland Little League.
Kay had a deep love of antiques. The love was so deep that she owned two antique stores. Halley-Hunt Antiques in Orlando and later on Halley's Antiques Mall in Maitland.
After retiring Kay's love of antique dealing thrived on. She continued dealing in two antique stores for several years. She also had a fond love for thrift shopping, which kept her going.
At the time of her passing Kay resided with her youngest son, Shawn, and his family, in Altamonte Springs. She went to heaven with family and friends by her side.
She will be missed.
Arrangements have been made by Newcomer Funeral Home.
Services are scheduled for Thursday, May 11 at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 and Mass will begin at 11, followed by a gravesite service at Maitland Cemetery. A reception will follow at the Halley residence; 948 Lake Ave, Altamonte Springs, FL.
In lieu of sending flowers, please make a donation in Kay's name to the Christian Sharing Center.
