Kenneth Ralph Vendena

August 1, 1938 — November 30, 2022

Kenneth Vendena, age 84, of Orlando, Florida passed away on November 30, 2022. He was born in Denver, Colorado, on August 1, 1938 to Roxie and Florence (Madonna) Vendena. He is survived by his wife Rosemary (Powers) Vendena, two sons, Garrett Vendena (Jessica) of Kissimmee, Florida, and Gregory Vendena of Copenhagen, Denmark. Also surviving are two grandsons, Dominick Vendena of Orlando, and Oskar Vendena of Copenhagen, and granddaughter, Mai Vendena of Copenhagen.

Ken was a graduate of Regis Jesuit High School in Denver and Colorado State College (now University of Northern Colorado). He was a public school principal in the Jefferson County Schools for over three decades. Ken was an elementary school teacher in Greeley and in Jefferson County Schools for four years before becoming a principal. Students and staff at Lasley, Kullerstrand, Vanderhoof, Stevens & Martensen, Dennison Fundamental School, Glennon Heights, Kyffin, and Vivian schools were vividly and fondly remembered all his life. Ken was recognized as a leader by his peers as the president of Jeffco Schools Elementary School Principals' Association, then president of Jeffco Schools Principals' Association, and later as president of Jeffco Schools Administrators' Association.

Ken loved recreational sports, especially golfing. With his friends, he played at public courses up and down the front range of Colorado at the crack of dawn, favoring the smaller towns and countryside public courses in addition to major city courses. His idea of fun included pick-up basketball games with fellow school administrators and coaching soccer teams for both of his sons.

Ken's interest in aircraft began as a very young boy. Like many of his generation, he followed the exploits of his heroes of WWII. He pursued that interest when he joined the Civil Air Patrol during his teen years. Ken became an accomplished builder of detailed model aircraft and enjoyed researching the engineering and characteristics of each model he completed.

Ken and Rosemary were married for 60 years, and lived in Denver and the surrounding area until 2008, when they moved to Orlando. They shared a love of travel and spent many happy times exploring and visiting in the USA on family trips. They traveled as independent world travelers on extended trips to Europe and Asia meeting people and making friends wherever they went.
