Kennith Joseph Spoor, age 89, of Orlando, Florida passed away on Sunday August 29, 2021 after a brief hospice stay. He was born March 16, 1932, in Clyde, New York, the son of Kenneth and Edna Spoor.
Ken joined the Coast Guard at the age of 17 and served in both Korea and Vietnam. He was stationed in New Orleans when he decided to retire in 1972 after 23 years of service. Upon retirement he continued to work and held a variety of jobs that involved his interest in guns, exotic animals and travel. When the time came to stop working, he decided to volunteer. Ken spent several thousand hours at the Aquarium of the Americas in New Orleans, working with the birds and animals he loved. He moved to Florida in 1997 and continued his volunteer work at the Lake Nona Veterans Administration helping his fellow veterans.
Survivors include daughters, Julie (Michael) Scroggins of Tampa, Deborah Sveinsvoll of New York, sons Todd (Laura) Spoor of Arizona, John Wertz of Dunedin, and Keith (Alice) Wertz of Louisiana, daughter-in-law Jill Spoor of Virginia, sister Pat Creager and brother Bill (Barb) Spoor of New York. Ken is also survived by eight grandchildren, seven great grand children and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents, his wife Maria, sister Mary Jean Mann and son, Roger Spoor.
Visitation with the family will be Sunday, September 26, 2021 from 10 am to 11 am with funeral services to follow from 11 am to 12 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, 895 S Goldenrod Road, Orlando, Florida 32822.
