Kurt Thron, former resident of Rotterdam New York, passed away peacefully at home in Orlando Florida on May 11, 2015 at the age of 87.
Kurt is predeceased by his parents Adam and Elise (Bauer) Thron and his wife of 53 years Helen (Thompson) Thron.
Kurt is survived by his sons, Richard (Susan) of Orlando Florida and Gordon of Rotterdam New York. Also by his sister Mary Ann Brand of Schenectady.
Kurt is lovingly remembered by his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Also cousins, nephews and nieces and many friends in New York and Florida.
Kurt was born in Weinheim Germany in 1927. He graduated from Mont Pleasant High School in 1946 and was prominent in the school's basketball championships. Kurt began work as an Orthotist and after serving 2 years in the Army stationed at Walter Reed Army Hospital, he received his Orthotist Certification in 1959. He was the owner of Albany Orthopedic Appliance Center in Albany New York until his retirement in 1984.
Kurt enjoyed playing shuffle board with his friends in Florida and won several team championships. He also loved to watch soccer on TV. In younger years he played soccer with the Schenectady Football Club.
Thank you to everyone who helped Kurt during the past several years when the dementia became worse. Visiting Angels for the aides, 5 Star Home Health of Orlando Florida for the nursing and Hospice of the Comforter for being there for the final months.
The family wishes that everyone remember Kurt in their own special way.
Services will be private at the convenience of the family. The family would be honored if any memorial contributions be made to Autism Speaks.
