Lassie Mae Keene

August 23, 1934 — July 31, 2021

Lassie Mae Keene, devoted and beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother, passed away unexpectedly Saturday July 31, 2021 in Orlando, Florida surrounded by her loving immediate family.

Lassie Mae Duty was born in Ragland, West Virginia on August 23, 1934 to Thomas Cullen Duty and Esther Chafins Duty who predecease her in their heavenly passage.

Raised in Delbarton, West Virginia, Lassie graduated from Birch High School in 1953 and attended and graduated Bluefield Business College, where she met her future husband, Harold Frank Keene (whom she affectionately called "Crip" due to a college sports injury). Lassie also received a degree in Business Administration from Florida Southern College in Lakeland.

Lassie and Harold were married on April 17, 1954 and were married for 67 wonderful years and have three sons Harold Lee Keene (Hal), Thomas Randal Keene (Randy) and Terry Cullen Keene.

Lassie is survived by her loving husband Harold, sons Hal and Linda Keene (wife), Randy Keene, Terry and Renee Keene (wife). Grandsons Tanner Cullen Keene, Thomas Joshua Keene and Cale Cullen Keene, Granddaughters Leah Martin and Kristie Halstead and husband Christopher and great grandchildren Morgan Martin, Aiden Halstead and Emily Halstead. Lassie is also survived by her brother Granville L. Duty of Columbus, Ohio and her sister Lucille Hanshaw of Delbarton, West Virginia.

In addition to being a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Lassie also had a long and distinguished professional career in business administration and worked for Michigan Seamless Tube in South Lyon, Michigan, Korvettes Furniture in Jessup, Maryland and Westinghouse Corporation in Orlando, Florida among others before retiring.

Lassie greatly enjoyed traveling, cooking and country music as well as doting on her beloved husband, children and grandchildren. Lassie will always be known for her contagious smile and laughter as well as her country girl wit and humor. Lassie was always able to look on the brighter side of things, good times or bad. She always put her unwavering trust in the Lord while offering you a bit of motherly advise or her opinion in an upbeat, down to earth manner that was always sure to make you grin and smile and walk away feeling better than you did before any conversation with her. A wonderful and remarkable woman who will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know her.

Viewing will be on Monday August 9, 2021 from 5pm-9pm at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals and Receptions, East Orlando Chapel. Services will be at 11am Tuesday, August 10, 2021 at the funeral home. Interment at 2pm will follow at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery in Mims, Florida.
