Haley, Lawrence "Larry" G. - Larry Haley died on Veteran's Day, November 11, 2006 due to pancreatic and liver cancer. Larry was 60 years old. He was born in Lynchburg Va. on March 1, 1946 and raised in Appomattox, Va. He was the third child to the late Robert and Goldie Haley. Larry attended Bluefield College for 2 years before listing in the United States Navy where he served 4 years. After being turned down to fight with American soldiers in Vietnam he was honorably discharged and moved to Orlando, Fl. While in Orlando, Fl he joined the City of Orlando Police Department where he retired a Patrolman after 25 years. Upon retirement Larry worked at Boggy Creek Golf course doing various jobs. For him this was a way to play golf for free and have a good time.
Larry is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Goldie Haley, and one brother Robert "Bobby" Haley, Jr. He is survived by his brother and his wife Wallace and Mary Jane Haley of Appomattox, VA, niece and husband, Judy and Jimmy Harris of Appomattox, VA., niece and husband Martha Haley and Paul Bowling, their children Eric and Haley of Ferrum, VA., and Greg and Katherine Ayers , great-nephew and wife of Concord , Va.
The family would like to thank Brad Paris, Hospice of the Comforter and the friends who have assisted Larry during his illness with prayers, calls, and visits. There will be a gathering at Boggy Creek Golf Club, 3650 8th Street, Orlando, Fl. on November 13, 2006 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. There will also be a service of remembrance at Robinson Funeral Home in Appomattox, Va. November 17, 2006 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to be made to the Hospice of the Comforter, 480 W. Central Parkway, Altamonte Springs, Fl. 32714 or to the hospice services of your choice.
