Len was born in Philadelphia, PA, November 27, 1939, to Stephen Wieckowski and Margaret Wieckowski (nee: Bercik). He attended St. Peter's Elementary School and graduated from Roman Catholic High School in 1957. He immediately went to work for the First Pennsylvania Company where he started as a clerk in their Transit Department. While working full time, he put himself through college at night, taking many courses in the new field of Computer Science. His knowledge of this new technology earned him several promotions to the bank's Computer Department on the 7th Floor. He graduated from St. Joseph's University in 1966, with a degree in Computer Science, and was soon hired by McGraw Hill Publishing Co. to work in their Computer Department. He continued to attend night school, and graduated from Rider College with a Master's Degree in Business. His hard work and attention to details earned him many promotions and when he retired in 2000 he was Sr. Vice President of Facilities. He guided McGraw Hill through many changes such as Y2K, when all their computers worldwide worked perfectly from the start on New Year's. He orchestrated the move of hundreds of employees from 1221 Avenue of the Americas to new quarters at 1 Penn Plaza in one weekend. They were up and running seamlessly on Monday!
Len was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. In 1961, he married Judith Wieckowski (nee: McCall) and had six children: Leonard, Jr. (deceased). He is survived by Mark (Robert Bearden), Keith (Susan, nee: Dexter), Paul (Barbara, nee: Aulwes), Lee-Ann Fink (Neal) and Christopher (Cara, nee: Kane) and nine grandchildren: Jude, Meghan, Benjamin, Reagan, Morgan, Kathleen, Grace, Hunter and Parker. They lived in Philadelphia for seven years and eventually moved to Hamilton Square, NJ. During this period Len was Scoutmaster for ten years for Troop 91, Little League Manager, and Soccer Coach.
Retirement to Florida brought its own set of joys Len settled down to being a full-time grandfather and volunteer at St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Church. As the family grew and moved to Florida, Len loved attending the grandkids' games - soccer, baseball, tag football, basketball, SYNCHRO, swimming, and performing arts. He was their biggest fan! He attended daily Mass and served for many years on St. Isaac's Building and Finance Committees.
After a gallant battle Len passed away July 10, 2023, due to complications of Parkinson's Disease.
