Bichler, Leopold, age 88 of Orlando, passed away Saturday, July 30. He was born in New York, NY on October 18, 1922. He served in the Army Air Corp during WWII as an engineer on a bomber in the South Pacific, and survived a plane crash.
He was a member of the FDNY, retiring as a captain after 35 years of service. Following retirement he volunteered at Staten Island Hospital South for 20 years and was an active volunteer with the American Red Cross and the FDNY retirees. After living on Staten Island for 40 years, he moved to Orlando in 2005. He enjoyed traveling, hunting, fishing and square dancing.
He was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 2 sisters. He is survived by his wife Lois Bichler of Orlando; sons, Robert Bichler of Waunakee, WI and Gene Freeman of California; daughters, Elizabeth Bichler of Orlando and Mira Walker of California; 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandsons; and one brother, Edward Bitton.
