Leslie C. Vaughan, Jr.

January 2, 1940 — October 26, 2013

Leslie Crandall Vaughan, Jr., was born an only child to Leslie Crandall Vaughan, Sr., and Virginia Aurelia Evans Vaughan on January 2, 1940, in Richmond, Virginia, and passed away on October 26, 2013. He was preceded in death by his parents and beloved grandparents. He is survived by his loving wife, Rachel, step-daughter Leslie Ann Gastineau, step-grandchildren, Deacon and Vanessa of Orlando; aunt Jacqueline and husband Benny Bailey, Petersburg, Virginia; and uncles Egbert H. Vaughan of Miramar, Florida, and Gene A. Vaughan of Petersburg, Virginia, and a number of cousins. Les was especially close to his uncle Gene and his cousin Steve Vaughan of Memphis, Tennessee.

Les graduated from John Marshall High School and earned his Electrical Engineering degree from Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia, in 1964, and later worked on his MBA at Roanoke College. After graduation, Les was hired by General Electric in Salem, Virginia, where he was a manager in the Drive Systems division. Les also served in the Marine Corp Reserves. In 1979, Les left GE to take a managerial position with Martin Marietta in Orlando, Florida. In 1989, Les left Martin Marietta to venture out on his own and opened his own accounting practice as an Enrolled Agent with the IRS which he ran until he retired in 2011.

Les and Rachel met in 1972 when Les hired her for a position at General Electric but they lost touch when Les moved to Orlando. After many years, they became re-acquainted and following a two year courtship, they married on May 1, 2004, and Les brought Rachel to Orlando.

When Les came to Orlando in 1979, he found his church home in First Baptist Church at the downtown location. He has worked as an usher for the past 36 years and became head usher earlier this year. Les loved First Baptist Church, and he had a deep and abiding faith in the Lord.
