Leslie W. Shim, age 88, of Orlando, Florida passed away on Tuesday, March 12, 2019.
Leslie was born on October 18, 1930 in Clarendon, Jamaica. He was the son of the late Charles Shim Hue and Vashti (Greenhut) Shim.
Shortly after graduating from St. George's College in Kingston, Jamaica, Leslie worked as mechanic on a ship where he discovered his passion for diesel engines.
He worked at Industrial Heavy Equipment in Kingston, Jamaica as a diesel mechanic for many years before migrating to Orlando, Florida in 1977 with his family. He worked for Heintzelman's Truck Center in Orlando, Florida until his retirement in 2010.
Leslie discovered an enthusiasm for metaphysical studies and holistic healing. He practiced meditation intensively and always maintained a positive outlook on life. During his spare time he was an avid fan of the Orlando Magic basketball team.
Leslie is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Glenna (Smith) Shim; his son, Michael Shim and his wife, Ana; three daughters, Desiree Shim, Caroline Weston and her husband, Paul, and Lisa Shim; four grandchildren, Rochelle White, Alexander Weston, Tyler Weston, and Leah Drysdale; and three great-grandchildren, Jasier Morales, Julian Morales, and Jayde Morales.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his five sisters, Lilly Shim, Rose Chin-Sue, Inez Lyn, Emma Merrick, and Casin Davis; and his brother, Herman Shim.
A Memorial Mass will be held at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 5900 Oleander Drive, Orlando, FL 32807, on March 23, 2019 at 11:00 AM.
