Leta Susan Ellers Schroeder, 72, died peacefully at her home in Winter Park,FL on Thursday, August 3, 2023, surrounded by her beloved husband, three children, and her devoted brother and sister. Although she was named Leta in honor of her maternal grandmother, she was affectionately called Susan by her parents, family, and friends.
Susan was born and raised in Catonsville, MD by her late parents, George and Margaret Ellers. She graduated from Catonsville High School in 1968 and was accepted into the Nursing program at Catonsville Community College. Susan graduated with a degree in nursing, and moved to Miami, FL to be with her husband, Frederick. She worked as a nurse in the intensive care unit and the cardiac care unit, taking care of critical patients. Although Susan stopped working as a nurse so that she could be a stay at home mother to her three children, she always kept her nursing license active.
Susan was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother. She is survived by her brother George, sister-in-law Missy, her sister Elizabeth, her devoted spouse of 48 years, Frederick, her three children Christopher, Julianna, and Benjamin, and her granddaughters Madison and Brianne. She also leaves behind her nephews Kyle Berkeridge, Michael Schroeder, Patrick Schroeder, and John Schroeder, her niece Christine Schroeder, and her cousin Joe Miller.
Susan was a member of The First Presbyterian Church of Orlando. She loved Christmas. She would always show her granddaughter Madison the true meaning of Christmas by giving Christmas boxes for underprivileged children. She always donated to the Billy Graham Foundation. She enjoyed planting fresh flowers and always making sure that her yard was pristine. Susan was always active with the PTA and chaperoned many field trips. She will always be remembered as a kind and loving person who always saw the best in people.
A celebration of life for Susan will be held Friday, August 11, 2023 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3806 Howell Branch Road, Winter Park, FL 32792 from 2pm-4pm and 6pm-8pm.
Entombment will occur at Woodlawn Cemetery in Maryland, where Susan will be reunited with her parents and grandparents.
