Today we are honoring Leticia Colón Santiago, born in Cataño, Puerto Rico on April 18, 1956 and passed away at the age of 63 in Altamonte Springs, Florida on October 24, 2019.
Our dearly beloved is survived by her husband- Edwin Martinez, her children- David & Patricia, Valerie, Jillian, Francheska, and Alexis, and her grandchildren- Patricia Ivette, David Julian, Daniel, Jillian Alyssa, and Gavin.
Letty was a loving wife, a doting mother, and an exemplary grandmother that revolved her life around her grandchildren. She was the type of wife that albeit loved her husband entirely, had no problem giving him a piece of her mind. My favorite memory of them is when Martinez would love to poke jokes at her, and she would just roll her eyes, tell him to go bother his grandchildren, and secretly smile as he went to do as she said.
Loving her children came easy to her. When any one of her kids where in a financial or emotional situation, she would be the first to drop everything she was doing to make it better for them. I cannot count the many times she went out of her way to give her children everything, even something as minimal as making my dad lunch everyday in the summer, taking summer trips to New York to visit Jillian and pick up Gavin, or make a surprise trip to California Valerie's birthday.
Now, when it came to her grandchildren, we were her everything. That's not to say she would not let us know when we were behaving like roughians- she expected better than that from us, to be exemplary children that made her proud. Which was easy to do because we wanted to make her proud of us. That's not to say we didn't try her patience at times, to which she would say- "Oh my heavenly stars!" When I was first adopted into the Perdomo-Colon family, she did not hesitate to welcome me with open arms and say, "I am your grandmother." That's just the kind of person she was. She did not care if you were of blood, she loved us and made everyone feel welcome all the same. She was very happy to learn that she would soon become a great-grandmother.
As most of you know, Letty was a just person that always seeked to be in the company of her loved ones. We shall miss her dearly, especially in the little things she used to do and the traditions she started with us, those are the moments where we'll feel her absence the most. She shall live eternally in all of our hearts and memories. The only peace of mind that helps ease our grief is knowing she reached those heavenly stars, and is in her eternal rest, waiting for all of her loved ones to join her one day.
Her oldest granddaughter, Patricita
