Levi Martin Wenger, age 78, of Winter Park, FL, passed away at home on Monday, January 21st, peacefully in his sleep with his wife Rebecca by his side. He was born April 19, 1934 in Lancaster County, PA. He was the son of Walter Wenger and Lizzie Martin of New Holland, PA. who have preceded him in death. He has a surviving brother, Martin Wenger and a surviving sister, Hettie Zimmerman both of Lancaster County.
Levi was the loving husband of Rebecca (Good) Wenger and they have celebrated 56 years of marriage together. Levi was raised a Mennonite in Pennsylvania and was a farmer in his younger years. They moved to Orlando in 1972 and he started his own carpet cleaning business. Making a career change he was hauling sand for Levi Trucking which was his favorite job ever. He did that for 20 years. One of his favorite past-times was playing Othello and he would invite anyone to challenge him. If you won you were the lucky one! He enjoyed music and played harmonica since youth, and most recently for his grandchildren. He also played tunes on the organ, and sometimes played for the neighborhood on the organ in the garage. It made him so happy to see people dance to his harmonica music.
He is survived by daughter Bethanne Vaughan of Houston TX, a son Adam Wenger of Orlando FL, daughter Mary Etta Cope of Midland
Park NJ, daughter Betty Jane Russo of Polk City FL and daughter Lisa Wenger Caldaroni of Wilton CT. He has 8 grandchildren, Jonathon Cope of New York, NY, Jessica Cope of Midland Park, NJ, Jeremy Cope of Austin, TX, Kristina Russo and Anthony Russo of Polk City,FL, Matthew Wenger, Courtney Caldaroni and Carly Caldaroni of Wilton Ct.
Levi loved his Savior, and would share John 3:16 with many family and friends. He wanted others to know the peace he also had through faith in Christ. They were members at First Baptist Church of Orlando since 1980. He was a member of the Faith Class also. As his health deteriorated, he would say he was ready whenever Jesus called him. If he lived he won, if he went home he won. Thus his marker will be engraved with "I win either way". He served Christ as a disciple with all his heart.
Visitation is at 1pm Friday at Newcomer Funeral Home at 895 Goldenrod Road and the service is at 3pm. A sunset burial follows at Chapel Hill Cemetery, 2400 Harrell Rd, Orlando, FL.
