Linda Young, was the beloved wife of Richard Young Sr. and mother of Raymond Young, and Richard Young Jr. She passed away on Jan. 23, 2016 after a long illness.
She was born in Montgomery, AL on Aug. 26, 1941. Her parents were Herbert and Lucile Burnley. Her father served in the Navy during WW2. Her parents moved to the Miami, FL area in the late 1940s where she attended school.
Linda was an only child. Her first cousin, Shirley Hensley, was near her age, and they were almost like sisters for years.
Linda and Richard met in a High School class, dated for a few years when they were about twenty, broke up, and then got back together in late 1967. Both Linda and Richard were baptized in the Baptist church.
Linda was involved in a horrible automobile accident in October 1967 and was hospitalized for 23 days. She had just started teaching that year and had to drop out for the remainder of the school year. She never fully recovered from this accident. Linda and Richard were married on May 31, 1968 and moved to Columbus, OH where Richard was stationed in the Air Force.
Linda graduated from Florida Atlantic University in 1967 with a degree in Education. She had trained to become an English teacher.
She and Richard lived in Columbus, OH for over eight years, first in the Air Force, and later when Richard was working as a programmer analyst for the Industrial Nucleonics company. Their two sons were born in Columbus; Raymond on May 21, 1970 and Richard Jr. on Dec. 2, 1972.
In 1975 Richard and Linda moved to Longwood Florida when Richard accepted a computer related job with the Stromberg Carlson company in Lake Mary, FL. That company changed hands three times but he remained in the same job and location for 27 years before retiring in 2003..
Linda worked as a homemaker and substitute teacher. After moving to Longwood she and Richard became members of the Moravian church. Linda was a faithful church and choir member. In her early years she was an accomplished musician playing the marimba and guitar.
Starting in the 1990s she started having health related issues. Diabetes, CHF, a heart murmur, high blood pressure, COPD, and several other things. Finally in 2013 she developed Alzheimer's and her physical condition slowly deteriorated. In early 2015 she developed serious CHF and ended up in a nursing home. She was unable to work with physical therapy and her condition slowly got worse. She finally passed away at 2:10 A.M. on Saturday Jan. 23, 2016.
In her early years she was an outgoing extrovert who would strike up conversations and make friends at the drop of a hat. She was a thoroughly lovely person and will be greatly missed.
