Lois E. Davenport
1924 – 2015
Lois "Betty" Davenport, 91, a descendant of a pioneer Brownsville family (Celaya), and a devout Catholic, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 16, 2015. She joins her husband, Sterman Davenport, and sisters Adelaide Pohlen, Mary Margaret Fox, Rose Marie Fox, and Dorothy Fairey in heaven.
Betty is survived by her sister, Frances Pratt, daughter Barbara Becker, and son in law Robert Becker. She is blessed with three grandchildren, Kristina, Nicholas, and Bill with whom she held a special place in her heart. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
The youngest of six daughters, Betty was born in Brownsville, Texas to James J. Fox and Adelaide Celaya Fox on May 4, 1924. Upon completion of High School, Betty worked for the U.S. Government as a Meteorologist, where she met her husband Sterman, a Sergeant of the U.S. Air Force for 13 years. Together they traveled in Europe and lived in France and Germany after WWII, where they adopted their daughter, Barbara, a German orphan. Barbara was the joy of Betty's life. Upon Sterman's honorable discharge from the Air Force, they settled in Hyattsville, Maryland. Betty's easy going personality and secretarial expertise kept her gainfully employed for several companies over the years. She is remembered by friends and loved ones for her esteemed baking ability, especially for her famous apple cakes. After living in the Washington D.C. Metropolitan Area for 60 years, Betty moved to Central Florida in 2012 to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren.
