Lois Emma Ballance

Ballance, Lois Emma- Age 85, of Altamonte Springs, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 28, 2004. She was born in Pasquotank County, North Carolina, on September 15, 1918. she was preceded in death by her parents, Seth and Annie Morgan, one sister, Edna Tarkington, two brothers, Jesse & Robert Morgan and one half brother, Ernest Morgan; husbands, Elisha Russell and D.H. Ballance. She lived in Elizabeth City, NC, until her middle thrities, and then moved to Norfolk, Virginia. There she worked for K & K five & dime. She managed the lunch counter, where her cooking ability became well known. People would drive across town for her homemade soups and salads. She always enjoyed cooking for family and church friends. When she retired at age 65, she moved to Altamonte Springs to be near family. She loved the warm weather and grew many beautiful flowers and had two vegetable gardens each year. Many enjoyed the fruits of her labor. Family was very special to her and she delighted in having them for dinner, and celebrating birthdays. Her church became her main event each week. She was president of her Sunday school class for many years. She had many friends there and enjoyed going to lunch with them once a week. she is survived by one daughter, Ann B. Baker & her husband Charles, of Altamonte Springs; son, Gene Russell & his wife Janet, of Pittsburgh, PA. She was blessed with six grandchildren, Rick Stangler, his wife, Sharon of Heathrow, FL, Pamela Huggins, Spanish Fort, AL, Charles Lee Baker, his wife Lisa, residing in the country of Nepal, Brent Russell, his wife, Heather of Pittsburgh, PA, Gena Williams, Her husband, Lonnie of Okeechobee, FL, and Cindy Russell, of Dayton, TN. She had 13 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at Sanlando Baptist Church, Monday, May 3, 2004, at 10:00 AM. She will be buried in Elizabeth City, NC on May 7, 2004. Instead of flowers, it is requested donations be made to Hospice of the Comforter, 595 Montgomery Road, Altamonte Springs, Fl 32714 in her memory.
