On December 1, 2014 Lorene Barnette went to heaven to join her beloved husband, Wallace and son Ronald. She is survived by her brother Robert Lewis Gibbs, sons Wallace, Stephen and Douglas and daughters-in-law Sharon, Janelle, Bonnie and Patricia. "Renie" was blessed with seven grandchildren, Billy, Kristi, Charlie, Kathy, Cody,Casey, Ashley and Bobby, great grandchildren, Zachary, Katy, Lexi and Tyler, great great grandchild Zaiden, and numerous nieces and nephews with whom she held a special place in her heart.
Lorene was born in Bedford, Virginia in 1922. She was one of seven children and went through the challenges of the Great Depression. Her maiden name was Gibbs and her mom was a Creasy. These families held firm to the values of faith and family, which she embraced and imparted to her sons. She was so loved by nieces and nephews that many of them reached out to her in times of need and she was always there for them. Lorene, Wallace and the boys spent most of their lives in Alexandria,Va. On Sunday mornings she awoke the household with "rise and shine", got them into their Sunday best and walked them to First Christian Church.
She loved her neighborhood friends. She felt many of them were like her extended family and loved long talks while each took turns sharing, supporting and comforting one another. She was always there for anyone who needed her. When she moved to Florida she chose independent living at Chambrel in Longwood,Florida. There she fell in love with a whole new set of friends and they in turn with her.
Mom will be remembered as a lady of grace and charm; a gentle spirit who inspired us all. "Renie" was truly an angel in our world. Mom said she would never fly and her wishes are being honored. Dad was an engineer with Southern Railroad and as a tribute to their life together she is going home to Virginia by rail.
If roses grow in heaven, Lord
please pick a bunch for me.
Place them in my Mother's arms
and tell her they're from me.
Tell her I love and miss her,
and when she turns to smile,
place a kiss upon her cheek
and hold her for awhile.
Because remembering her is easy,
I do it every day,
but there's an ache within my heart
that will never go away.
