Tuesday, February 22, 2022 a beautiful, precious soul, Lori Winfield, lost her battle with
cancer, less than one month shy of her 60th birthday.
As an infant Lori was adopted by Lee Winfield and Patricia (Winfield) Johnson and lived her
adolescent years in Starkville, Mississippi. After the death of her father, her family moved to
Central Florida. In her life's journey, Lori lived in Fort Worth, Texas, Saint Petersburg, Florida,
the Treasure Coast area of Florida and finally settled in Sanford, Florida, with her partner of
13 years Shannon Gath and their three dogs and two cats, Abby, Rylee, Jaxon, Cevyn and
Aria.
For the past 14 years, Lori worked at the Florida Department of Children and Family. Most
recently her compassionate heart lead her to the position of Care Navigator Supervisor, with
the Hope Florida Program. This program helps people prosper in society with economic
self-sufficiency and hope.
Lori was an avid book reader and appreciated all types of music, loved nature, the beach
and animals. She rescued many small animals throughout her life, including cats, dogs,
ferrets, chinchillas, birds… and loved them all as her babies.
Lori never met a stranger and was known for her sense of humor and quick wit. She loved to
laugh and make everyone around her laugh. She loved any opportunity to gather
with family, friends and her church family. She will be deeply missed by all that knew and
loved her.
Lori is preceded in death by her father Lee Winfield and stepfather John Johnson Jr. She is
survived by her partner Shannon Gath, her mother Patricia (Winfield) Johnson, her sisters
Wanda Winfield, Tina Gilliam, Sharon Proctor, Susan Maheu, Darlene Frizzell and her brother
John Johnson III, as well as several nieces and nephews and their children.
A Celebration of Lori's life will be held on her birthday, Sunday, March 20, 2022, at a location
to be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a local Humane Society, or VITAS Hospice of
Seminole County.
