Louis A. Ruiz, Jr.

Louis "Louiegie,Louie,Lou,Uncle Lou" A Ruiz Jr. departed this world May 4, 2018. He was born in the Bronx, NYC on Dec 9, 1947 to parents Pura Ortiz and Louis A. Ruiz Sr. He was the eldest brother of six. At an early age, he was destined to make a mark on this world. His dad took him around the city at the tender age of 5 to sing and perform in front of crowds which ignited his artistic passion into adulthood. Louie's favorite artist was Johnny Mathis. Put on a blind fold and when you heard Louigie sing you couldn't tell the two apart. Louie had numerous life accomplishments. To name a few: being apart of the New York City Police Department as a Detective which created true blue blood brotherhood with Bobby Gall, Mike Rivas, Frank Reid, Ritchie Ortiz, Arnie Amoros, Ruben Valentine, Joe Camacho, Joe Estrada, Vic Conde, and Sylvester Cotto. It is a bond which made them family. Capturing criminals didn't stop Louie from continuing his passion for singing and performing at the best venues in New York with the infamous Doo wops group, "The Eternals" and "Sheer Magic".

Louiegie married the love of his life, Yolanda "Cookie" Ruiz, meeting in 1967 which created a whirlwind love that captured the true essence of strength and fierce personalities. After dating for 7 yrs, Cookie had had enough and said put a ring on it! This ultimatum from Cookie created a swift reaction from Louie and a marriage that would last for 50 yrs. He knew he did the right thing. I'm sure he would take all the credit of him being so irresistibly handsome, and she couldn't resist his charm. Their love created me - Criss Ruiz, his daughter. I am perfect mix of the two, he would say. . ."my talent and your my mothers looks." With his infectious laugh, he would finalize by saying it was definitely all him. He passed to me the gift of voice, a sharp tongue, and a passion for politics.

Louiegie loved being around his family: Blondie, Vito, Lelita, Myrna - all very special relationships in his heart. He loved nieces, Tanya and Tyra, as if they were his own daughters.

He loved life, dancing, smiling, laughing, telling jokes and stories for hours on end. He was a collector of many things, compassionate, attentive, kind, strong-minded, strong-willed, intelligent. If you asked him advice, you should know that he wasn't going to sugar coat it. We all have timeless stories to tell about him that bring back such amazing memories.

You see, I know, without a doubt that he was an amazing father to me. I also know he was a father figure to many or call so many others his brothers, and that is what we all will treasure. He will live on in all of us and always know that the big man upstairs shared him with us. He was a true unforgettable soul. You're calling him back to have him headline in the Golden angels choir with a show-stopping solo performance in the sky. He has the voice of an angel.
