Luis Figueroa, 58, of Orlando, FL, passed away on February 27, 2013.
He was born on March 14, 1954 in Salinas, Puerto Rico, to Ernestina Ortiz and Pablo E. Figueroa. Luis was raised between Puerto Rico and South Bronx, NY. He married Santy Figueroa (nee Reyes) in 1980, and they lived in New London, CT, before relocating to Orlando in 1989. Luis worked as a computer technician for the United Space Alliance at NASA for over 20 years.
Growing up, Luis was quite a character; he could be charming one moment and tough the next. He was fiercely loyal and loving toward his family and friends. He would give the shirt off of his back to someone in need. Many who knew him can confidently say that they could call him when they needed someone to lean on and someone to laugh with.
Though Luis could be intimidating, he was a very loving and giving father. Throughout their lives, his children knew, without a doubt, that they were loved. Luis ensured that they were raised to be independent, confident individuals. On a rainy or cold day, you would find him tinkering with the family van with one of his daughters by his side. Though they may have grumbled at having to pass him the size 14 socket, they can successfully see their way around an engine.
Luis is survived by his wife Santy Figueroa of Orlando, FL; his mother Ernestina Ortiz of Caguas, Puerto Rico; his daughters Monica Williams of Columbus, OH, Linette Walker of Nashville, MI, Tina-Marie Figueroa of Orlando, FL and Jocelyn Figueroa of Orlando, FL; his son, Ricard Beltran of Orlando, FL; his sisters Dr. Lourdes Figueroa of Orlando, FL, Abigail Correa of Apopka, FL, Elizabeth Figueroa of New Britian, CT, Judith Figueroa-Santana of Amherst, MA; brothers Dr. Pablo E. Figueroa of Inverness, FL and Ruben Figueroa of Orlando, FL; and many grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be sent to the Figueroa Family, attention Jocelyn Figueroa.
