Luis "Louie" Alberto Medina, age 77, of Orlando, Florida passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 14, 2024 at his home in Orlando.
He was born on April 16, 1946 in Rio Piedras, PR, the oldest of six to his late parents, Santos and Damiana (Nieves) Medina. On April 17, 1971, he married the former Betty F. Quinones. From 1965 to 1969, Luis honorably served in the United States Marine Corp as an 0311 infantrymen. He was awarded the purple heart during his service in the Vietnam war. Later, he spent most of his working career as a truck driver
He is survived by his wife of nearly 53 years, Betty Medina, of Orlando; his daughter, Stacey Lopez, of Cary, NC; his son, Jason Medina of Windham, ME; nine grandchildren; two sisters, Leticia Medina of Orlando, and Irene Medina of Orlando; two brothers, Antonio Medina and his wife, Elizabeth, of Dunnellon, FL, and Albert Medina and his wife, Lisa, of Leicester, MA, and a brother-in-law, Juan Quinones.
Luis loved the Mets (and then later Yankees), wrestling, bowling, working out, playing cards and dominoes with family and friends, dancing and singing and doting on his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Richard Medina.
A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at 12:00 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home – East Orlando Chapel, 895 S. Goldenrod Rd, Orlando.
The family will receive friends and visitors on Tuesday, March 5, preceding the service from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at the funeral home.
Inurnment and committal services with full military honors will follow at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery, 5525 US-1, Mims, FL 32754 on Tuesday, March 5 at 2:30 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial contributions be sent to the
American Heart Association.
