It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Lurine Surat, a beloved woman of God, who departed from this world on February 22nd, 2024 on her 92nd birthday in Orlando, FL. Lurine's journey came to a peaceful end surrounded by her loving family.
Lurine was born on February 22, 1932 in Portland, Jamaica and was the last of 13 children. She was lovingly known as Sweetie, by her friends and family. Those who knew her can profess about being the recipient of Lurine's kindness, warmth, compassion, prayers and her renowned cooking. Throughout her years Lurine ventured into many careers that spanned multiple fields including the medical field, but many of her ventures were evidence of her strong entrepreneurial spirit inbred in her soul. She ran several businesses in Jamaica, Brooklyn, NY and Fort Lauderdale, FL.
A dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend, Lurine's unwavering love and support were the cornerstone of her family. She cherished her role as a mother, pouring her heart and soul into nurturing and guiding her children, always encouraging them, praying for them, and supporting them to pursue their dreams with passion and integrity. Her home was a place that always had a warm meal ready for whomever would come, always with an extra helping regardless of whether you requested it.
Lurine was known for her constant and strong prayer life. She brought everything and everyone to the Lord. Her words of encouragement were always marked by her deep, unrelenting faith. She never stopped praying for whomever she had contact with, but was consistent in beginning her day with prayer and lifting up her thanks at sunset.
Lurine's memory will forever be cherished by her six surviving children, Yvonne (Rupert), Leon, Excel, Anthony (Pat-Ann), Rohan (Helen), and Arlene (Bob). her adoring grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and a host of extended family and friends who were fortunate enough to share in her life's journey.
Though Lurine may no longer walk among us, her giving and caring spirit will live on in the countless lives she touched and the memories she leaves behind. May we find solace in the knowledge that she is at peace, her legacy of love and kindness shining brightly in our hearts forevermore.
A celebration of Lurine's life will be held on March 8, 2024, at Message of Hope Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Winter Springs, FL where friends and family will gather to honor her memory and share stories of her remarkable life.
