Mack A. Robinson, age 61, of Oviedo, passed away suddenly on Monday, April 6, 2020 at Oviedo Medical Center after a brief illness. He was the loving husband of Debra Ann (Graham) Robinson and a devoted father.
Mack was born on April 24, 1958 in Thomasville, GA, son to his parents, the late Joseph and Lula (Barnhill) Jones. He proudly and honorably served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps, retiring with the rank of First Sergeant. During his 22 years of active duty, he began as a welder and went up the ranks holding numerous titles. He was stationed all over the world from Okinawa, Japan, Camp LeJeune, NC, and Millington, TN to Cherry Point, NC, and Kaneohe Bay, HI. He was deeply respected for his dedicated leadership style and his expertise on the electrical systems of the AV-8B Harrier II aircraft as an avionics technician. While enlisted, Mack earned numerous awards including the Navy Achievement Medal, Navy Unit Commendation, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Good Conduct Medal with Silver Star, National Defense Service Medal and Sea Service Deployment Ribbon. He went on to retire on July 31, 1998.
His dedication to the United States armed forces continued long after retirement, as he began a career developing flight training systems first at Star Media Inc and PM Training Systems for Marine Corps Systems Command. Most recently, he worked as Assistant Program Manager for Logistics for the Marine Corp at Naval Air Warfare Center Training Systems Division. He was an esteemed mentor, subject matter expert, and colleague. He will be dearly missed by his team.
Mack earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Columbia College in 2002 and an MBA from Belhaven University in 2004.
Mack enjoyed being a "family man," and had many hobbies over the years, including fishing, deer hunting, and perfecting his grilling techniques. He was known for solving the biggest and smallest of problems with a focused mind, and a spirit of determination, and his impressive array of tools. From building a backyard tree fort for his kids (and again later for his grandkids) from scratch to renovating their entire house, he saw all of his projects through from start to finish.
Mack is survived by his wife, Debra Robinson of Oviedo; his two daughters, Moniece Robinson and Matoya Robinson (son, Mack Robinson II passed on in 2019); two grandchildren, Sebastian Robinson, and Caine Smith; and his mother-in-law, Lorraine Walker.
His surviving siblings: Joseph Robinson Jr., Chester Robinson, Rudolph Robinson, Carolyn Barnhill, Alverdean Robinson-Tindell, Gloria A. Robinson, George Jones (Barbara), Eugene Kemp, Warren Kemp, Matthew Kemp, Frankie Mae Graves, Marie Kemp, Josephine L. Kemp (Roy).
He was preceded in death by his parents.
