Manuela Castro

September 30, 1933 — December 28, 2024

Castro, Manuela age 91, of Orlando, Florida passed away on Saturday, December 28, 2024. She was born in Fajardo, Luquillo, PR.

Manuela arrived in the United States when she was 19. She settled in The Bronx, New York City, to live with Daniel, her brother, and his wife, Juanita. 

Manuela worked in the textile/fabric industry for several years as a seamstress for Ruben Bead, then worked in their Administration Office.

She met her husband, Arcadio “Cayo” Castro at age 20, and married him seven months after they met. Cayo worked in the auto paint and body industry.

Manuela and Cayo, along with their children, Alvin and Sandra, moved to Orlando in 1970. Cayo worked a couple of years at a paint and body shop. In 1971, he opened his own paint and body shop until his death in 1973.

Manuela became a single Mom and raised her children after his death. She went to work for Guardsmark Security at Orlando International Airport in 1976. She worked several years there and during her time there, confiscated guns and drugs at the checkpoint. She received several awards for this. 

She went on to work for Lyphomed Pharmaceuticals for several years, and eventually at Southland Distribution Center. 

She retired at age 62, and enjoyed spending her time with her grandchildren, Anthony and Angel, as well as Gardening. She also loved seeing and visiting with her Great Grandson Jaxson, whenever the opportunity allowed.

Manuela comes from a line of strong women who have lived well into their years to enjoy their great grandchildren.

Manuela was preceded in death by her parents, Jesus Carrasquillo and Asuncion Jimenez, sisters, Bienvenida Ramos and Susan Bishop and her brothers, Jose (Pepe) Carrasquillo and Daniel Carrasquillo, 

She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Castro, son, Alvin (Sonia) Castro, grandsons, Anthony M. Castro and Angel G. Sosa, Great-Grandson, Jaxson R. Castro, sister, Amparo Reyes and paternal sister, Carmine Carrasquillo.
