Marcelles "Val" Valjean Mclaughlin

Marcelles "Val" Valjean McLaughlin, 91, of Orlando, Florida passed away on Friday, May 1, 2020. He was born on January 1, 1929 in Nicholas County, West Virginia.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Winifred McLaughlin; his parents, William J. and Ruby Irene McLaughlin; and his siblings, Julian, Virginia, David, George, Dudley, and Francis.

Val is survived by his wife, Kathryn Bunting; his children, Dennis (Patricia) McLaughlin, Timothy McLaughlin, Sharen Horton, and James (Victoria) McLaughlin; his grandchildren, Kimberly (Stephen), Stacey, Jason (Kristy), Britni (Ben), Tayler, Brett, and Julia; and his seven great-grandchildren.

Val grew up in West Virginia, in high school a Lumberjack member of the band and played sports. After graduation, joining the army, based in Fort Lewis Washington where he met and married Winnie. Together they moved to Miami and started their family, joining the First Presbyterian Church on Brickell Avenue. Val joined the church choir and performed with the Opera Guild of Greater Miami.

He was involved with the Big Brothers, Khoury League Baseball, joining the Mason moving on to become a Shriner, Tin Lizzy.

Pop always enjoyed traveling and made the effort to visit or call family members and friends, driving hundreds of miles up into his late 80's.

In lieu of flowers, Val's family has requested that donations be made to the Shriners Hospital in Val's name.

Due to COVID19 the memorial service to include the Military, Shrine and Masons will be held at a later date, to be determined.
