Margaret Jo Lewis

November 13, 1933 — July 12, 2022

Margaret Jo Lewis passed away peacefully after a long illness on Tuesday, July 12, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. Margaret, known as Margie to those who knew her best, was a Mother, Grandmother, Sister and Friend to many. There was never a day that wasn't made brighter by her presence in it.

Margie was born to Maurice Delacluyse and Annie Marie Pysson on November 13, 1933 in Joslin, Illinois where she grew up on a farm for 8 years before moving to the city of Moline, Illinois with her family. She held the affection of her four siblings Helen Delacluyse, Janet Sweeney, Richard Delacluyse and Elizabeth (Betty) Delacluyse whose constant love and devilish antics set her on the early path to canonization.

At the age of 21, Margie along with her childhood best friend, Irene Meersman Metzger moved to Miami, Florida where she later met and married Thomas (Tom) Elwood Lewis Jr. They raised three daughters Ann Lewis, Elizabeth (Betty) Porter, and Christina (Tina) Lewis, affectionately referred to as "A, B & C". Margie was a devoted Mother to her daughters, never missing a school function, recital or sporting event. The home was filled with love and laughter up until the moment of her husband, Tom's, passing 17 years later…just as she would have it. Margie then accepted a position with the American Welding Society and worked her way up to Manager of Convention Services where she remained for the next 25 years enjoying meeting planning and extensive traveling to new places before retiring.

As much as Margie loved her children, she considered her grandchildren her greatest gift. Gregory Robert Porter and Brandon Thomas Porter were her pride and joy…and she was there 'GaGa". They will miss her, and her countless stories, very much. Margie was adored by her family and friends for her Midwest charming personality, her quick wit, caring and sensitive demeanor and incredible sense of humor.

A private family celebration of life will be held on Sanibel Island to honor the life of Margaret Jo Lewis and spread her ashes offshore of the Sanibel Lighthouse where she shared in so many fond family memories. A Memorial Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Moline, Illinois where Margie attended school. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made on her behalf to Hospice of the Comforter Altamonte Springs, Florida.
