Maria Dolores Otero (lovingly known as "Lolita") passed away at 82 years old on the early morning of February 9, 2018. Born in Nagua, Dominican Republic, on April 19, 1935, she was one of fourteen siblings.
Mrs. Otero and her family immigrated to the United States in 1978, and settled in Lawrence, Massachusetts. She worked the assembly line at Lucent Technologies from 1980 until her retirement in the year 2000. During that time, Mrs. Otero also served as the first lady of the Free Methodist Church pastored by her husband, Victor Otero. In 2000, Mrs. Otero retired with her family to Orlando, Florida and spent her time raising and caring for her family.
All her life, Mrs. Otero was a devout woman of faith. She lived her life showing the love, mercy, and compassion of Jesus Christ. To all who knew her, she was the embodiment of elegance and grace. She personified everything it meant to be a woman of God. She was a fighter. She was strong. She lived her life serving others—asking nothing in return.
Mrs. Otero leaves behind her loving husband of fifty-five years, her son, Daniel Otero, and her four daughters, Elena Colon, Alba Rodriguez, Iris Then, and Albairis Concepcion. Mrs. Otero was a devoted grandmother to twenty-eight grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren. Mrs. Otero now joins her beloved son Luis Alvarado, who passed away in 2006, and her grandson Victor Rafael Then Jr., who passed away in 2004.
