Marianna Carpenter Wieck, 94, passed away shortly after
midnight on Thursday, April 28, 2005. Born in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa on January 15, 1911, she attended Iowa Weslyan College where she was an active member of Pi Beta Phi. She married Harold Wieck of Davenport, and in 1943 they moved to California. Marianna had a great love for Republican politics and worked for a number of Republican candidates in both California and Florida. She served four times as a member of the Republican State Central Committee of California. Prior to Ronald Reagan being elected Governor of California, Marianna hosted a breakfast for Nancy Reagan. She was also very active in the Presbyterian Church. After her husband died in 1989 she alternately lived in Orlando, Florida near her daughter and in Marietta, Georgia near her son. She is survived by her son John Wieck, daughter Linda Rooks, grandchildren Deborah Andrews, James Wieck, Juliana Wolf, and Laura Voorhees and seven great-grandchildren. Memorial services to celebrate her life will be held in California.
