Marietta Charlene Barton was born on June 22nd, 1958 in Montego Bay, Jamaica. She was number 6 of 13 siblings who often followed in the footsteps of her big brother Eddie, earning her a "tomboy" label that she wore proudly. She could be found playing football, netball and running track. Marietta was a fierce protector of those she loved and had a fighting, fearless spirit that never wavered, even in illness. She loved people for who they were and where they were, always inviting them into her home and her heart. The best dressed in the room, Marietta was the life of the party who loved music, dancing and hosting gatherings. She rarely met a stranger and cherished the family she was born into as well as the additions of those friends who became family along the way. She was a loving wife to Vernon (Maxie), a protective mother to Tarrick, Giovanni and Teneisha, a devoted daughter and sister who always believed family came first. She wrote down a saying in her notebook; "May you live as long as you want to and want to as long as you live." Marietta lived life on her terms and leaves a legacy of strength and fearlessness. She would want us all to be fearless and to fight for what we believe in, fight for those we love and for a life worth living.
"The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?" Psalm 27:1
She is survived by her loving husband Vernon Halsted Barton, son Giovanni (Lisa) Barton, daughter Teneisha (Darryl) Barton, grandchildren Braxton and Gianna Barton, sisters Millicent McHayle, Dawn Bowen, Deborah (Phillip) Barber, Natalie (Obie) McKenzie, brothers, Boris Bowen, Vincent Bowen, Edward (Sonia) Bowen, Anthony (Denise) Bowen, 22 nieces and nephews and 23 grandnieces and grandnephews.
She is preceded in death by her father Everice Bowen, mother Lorna Joyce Bowen, son Tarrick Eduard Charlton (Turtle), sister Penelope McBean, brothers Everice (Norma) Bowen Jr. (Jimmy), Fabian Bowen (Chris), Ricardo Bowen (Ricky) and brother-in-law Steadman McHayle.
