MARION P. STRAIN, beloved wife of Shelley M. Strain, MD, loving mother of David passed Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009. She graduated from Youngstown College in Youngstown, Ohio 1939. Marion had studied engineering and math and became a high school math teacher in Streetsboro, Ohio; She married S.M. Strain, MD August 30, 1942 and went to New York City, NY. With the outbreak of war, her talent was called upon as an engineer, designing systems and writing technical data for military ships. She also became the liaison between her employer and the navy. At the end of the war, she returned to Cleveland, Ohio to again use her engineering talent. She was employed as engineering head, working on development of a nuclear reactor for use in a submarine. In the late 40's, her fulltime devotion became motherhood. In 1956, she returned to the classroom to teach math at Warrensville Heights High School.
She enjoyed people, travel and helping others. In the mid 1970's thru 1990's, she volunteered her time with the Office of Aging in Amherst, Ohio to do taxes and other projects. Proceeded in death by her parents, William and Helen Parmenter, brother William and sister, Jean Frazier. Her daughter-in-law, Barbara, sister-in-law Margy Bell and many nieces and nephews survive her. Visitation will be held from 4PM-8PM Monday, March 2 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 895. S. Goldenrod Road, Orlando.
