Marion Rose Tope was born in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan on December 19, 1921, the third of nine children of Charles and Rose Donovan Campbell. Marion passed from this earthly life into eternal life on March 28, 2006. Marion was predeceased by her parents; two sisters, Margaret Smiley and Charlotte LaPointe, and three brothers; Thomas, Neil, and Robert Campbell.
Marion grew up in Mt. Pleasant and graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in 1939. Having lost her father only months earlier, Marion was a hard working young woman who helped her Mother in supporting her siblings not only financially, but served as a loving and protective sister as well. During these years, she was employed with the General Telephone Company, and then later as a switchboard operator at Roosevelt Oil Company in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan.
On July 17, 1942, Marion and Robert J. Tope were married at Sacred Heart Church in Mt. Pleasant. After Bob was discharged from the military service, they resided in Mt. Pleasant until the early 1950's when they relocated to Saginaw, Michigan.
Marion was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother; creating a loving and comfortable home for her family. One of Marion's many attributes was her keen sense of style, fashion and décor, which was exhibited impeccably both personally and within her home. Her son, Neil, recalled his mother's love for gardening with roses being her favorite flower. Her husband, Bob, remembers her sewing and they are fortunate to have many of the pieces she made. Her nephew, Mark Campbell, commented" She would have put Martha Stewart to shame."
Marion possessed a quick wit and sense of humor, which endeared her to not only her family, but to many friends and acquaintances alike. Having raised her son in the mid 70's, she became manager of the Junior League's resale shop, "The Wise Penny". A shop that catered to the needy and homeless located in downtown Saginaw. For over 20 years she supervised the store and 400 women employees, and with other members of the League, generated impressive revenue which helped advance the charitable causes of the organization.
Marion also, enjoyed the many trips she and Bob took over the years, to name a few, to Canada, California, and the most memorable to Hawaii.
In 1997, Marion retired from the shop and she and Bob relocated to Orlando to be near their son, Neil, in 1998.
Marion will be greatly missed by her granddaughter, Kristina and her husband, Bobak Johanvash of California; her great grandchildren, Daniel, Layla, and Max; her sisters, Dorothy Phillips of California, Mary Catherine McHugh in Michigan; sister-in-law, Colleen Campbell in Mt. Pleasant, and her brother, Charles Campbell and his wife, Betty of Mt. Pleasant and several nieces and nephews.
Marion's husband, Bob; her son, Neil, along with other family members and friends thank you for joining them in this celebration of Marion's life and for ministering to them in this time of grief.
