It is with great sadness that the family of Marjorie “Margie” Paterson Shortt announces her sudden passing on May 9, 2024 at the age of 74 in Winter Park, Florida. She is survived by her loving husband of 36 years, Robert Michael Shortt and her daughter, Kimberlee Martha Mae Shortt. Her siblings are James Paterson (Barbara Sargent) and the late Jenny Paterson. Her family includes many cousins, nieces, nephews and a large extended Shortt family.
Margie was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on March 24, 1950 to Barbara and James Sargent. Margie was raised in Whitefish, Wisconsin where she graduated Whitefish Bay High School in 1968. She loved horses and was an accomplished rider of English dressage. She won many medals and trophies with her horse Fancy.
Margie moved to Colorado where she attended Colorado State University. She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design. Margie then moved to San Francisco, California where she worked as a Kitchen Designer. She lived in Virginia with her sister and worked for Piedmont Airlines. She eventually moved to Orlando, Florida and began her long career with U.S. Airlines, where she retired.
She met Mike in 1986 – it was love at first sight. The two shared a passion for life through travel and adventure, both of them having a fondness for surf, sun and sand. They married on November 7, 1987 and created lasting memories, before being blessed with their daughter Kimmee, in 1990. The family continued to explore the world, with Kimmee at their side, including the Caribbean, Rome, Paris, Costa Rica, and enjoyed Florida Keys camping and the family cottage in Wisconsin. Margie was incredibly smart, strong willed, talented, she was genuine, a free spirit, loved life, true to her family, loving and kind. She has always been the rock and will be deeply missed by all.
A Celebration of Life service will take place at College Park United Methodist Church at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 18th. The service will stream live on Kimberlee Shortt’s Facebook for anyone unable to attend. The family encourages casual attire; bright colors and beach theme to honor Margie’s life. There will be a gathering after the service hosted by Jim & Lisa Burrell at their residence.
Let’s all celebrate Margie the way she would have liked, Island style.
Arrangements are by the Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (Winter Park Chapel).
