Marlyn Wilson Estep

November 13, 1932 — November 7, 2017

Marlyn W. Estep (84) of Oviedo, Florida, passed away November 7, 2017. Born on November 13, 1932, she was the eleventh child of Joseph Willis Wilson and Janie Elizabeth Barker Wilson. She spent the first 70 years of her life in Axton, Virginia, and was a graduate of Axton High School. Shortly after graduation, she was employed by E. I. DuPont, where she worked in Spinning and Modernized Inspection for over 33 years. Being ever adventurous, at Age 70, she moved to Oviedo, Florida, where she lived the rest of her life.

Marlyn always said that becoming a Christian at Age 17 was the most life-changing experience she ever had. She said that before she was a Christian, she was angry and sullen, but afterwards, she couldn't stop smiling! She spent the next 50+ years serving as a volunteer in the Lone Oak Baptist Church, where she was Pianist, Choir Director, Sunday School Teacher, Bible Study Leader, Vacation Bible School Director, preparer of weekly bulletins, and a member of numerous committees—thankfully, not all at the same time! Early in those years, she attended seminary classes where she developed a deep love for Bible Study that continued for the remainder of her life.

At CrossLife Church (formerly First Baptist Oviedo), she served five years as hostess for the ESL Ministry (English as a Second Language) and was a student of Bible Study Fellowship for six years. She was a faithful member of the GloryUs Singles small group, where she enjoyed fellowship with "some of the most wonderful people a person could ever meet." She also helped prepare materials for Vacation Bible School and sang in the choir for several years.

In her spare time, Marlyn enjoyed reading, crocheting, and doing research on the Internet (until she was overcome by Alzheimer's).
Marlyn leaves behind a grateful family: two children, Neale Anthony Estep (Karen) of Amelia, Virginia; Elaine Estep LaBalbo (Joseph) of Oviedo, Florida; and three grandchildren: David Neale Estep and Ryan Cutler Estep of Chesapeake, Virginia; Mark Joseph LaBalbo of Oviedo, Florida; and two sisters: Sarah Wilson Quessenberry of Martinsville, Virginia; Nora Wilson Tolbert of Eden, North Carolina; and one sister-in-law, Myrna Underwood Wilson of Axton, Virginia, as well as a wide circle of extended family and friends.

The family would like to express our deep appreciation for all of you who have walked with Mom through her journey and to Savannah Cottage of Oviedo (memory care facility) for the kindness and high quality of care that they provided during her last six months of life.
A Visitation (1:00) and Celebration of Life (2:00) will be held on Friday, November 10, in Legacy Hall at CrossLife Church, 45 West Broadway Street, Oviedo, FL 32765. Another visitation (1:00) and memorial service (2:00) will be held on Saturday, November 18, at Lone Oak Baptist Church, 96 Home Creek Road, Axton, Virginia 24054. A reception will immediately follow each service.
