Mary Frances Stout

September 1, 1924 — June 19, 2024

Mary passed away on 6-19-24. She had a long and happy life and was just a few months shy of her 100th birthday. She was so looking forward too to being 100. She had a larger than life presence in a small body.

Mary wore many hats and was known by many names depending on the family member or friend: Ma, Mom, Effie, MF, Grandma, Mamaw, Granny, Gram, Aunt Mary and even Old Bat. Anyone who knew Mary loved her; you were never a stranger when you came to her house. Her door was always open and she welcomed any and all visitors.

She was Dad’s (Goose) 1st mate upon retirement from Orange County School System. She started off on the lunch line cooking and serving. She began taking classes and becoming certified in food service while at Bonneville Elementary. She was promoted to Assistant Manager at Colonial High School and retired as manager at the Winter Park 8th Grade center.

When Mary was not being a 1st mate, she and Dad traveled numerous times to the Smokey Mountains, shelling at the beach on the west coast of Florida and gambling in Biloxi; sometimes with friends and often by themselves. She loved gardening, crafting, watching sports and just being with family. Mary was a huge Ohio State Fan and would let you know it.

For many years it became a tradition to have Saturday breakfast at Mary’s which included Saturday bread. You never knew what was on the menu or how many would show up around the table and spill into the living room. She was famous for her round eggies, waffles with pecans or chocolate chips and grits. She enjoyed the family get togethers and made the best banana pudding. She enjoyed having a drink or 2 with the grandkids and a few jello shots. She was always up for a game of cards, domino’s or Yahtzee.

So many words describe this woman, strong, loving, kind, compassionate, thoughtful, giving, and spirited. She loved and was loved by so many.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years Bill Stout and her parents Robert Guy Simpson and Julia May Simpson and her brother Robert Simpson (Loraine).

She is survived by her children and grandchildren:

Daughter Shirley Harrell , daughter Patty Golloway, son Steve Stout and his wife Donna Stout and son Joe Stout.
